Arthur Miller's The Crucible was based on the witchhunt trials that happened in Massachusetts. And of course, the play mirrored the McCarthyism in the US during the 1950s.
Toy Factory Production did a straight forward staging with a mixed of experienced and new actors. The Director Rayann Condy could have managed the accents and "volume" of the actors as they were quite glaring. The lines at times were delivered rather fast or inaudible, resulting in audience missing the plot.
Of the actors, Rodney Oliveiro (Proctor), Matt Grey (Danforth), Andrew Mowatt (Corey) and Jean Toh (Abigail) performed well Set design by Chris Chua and lighting design by Gabriel Chan were also effective.
While this production had some flaws, it was still watchable for its strong text and overall staging. Hopefully the production would get better as it goes.
This blog includes my 2 interests: attending arts performances and travels. It serves as a documentation of the Singapore arts and culture scene. For my travels, I hope my experience will make your next trip more fruitful and enjoyable.
