Tony Bennettt charms Singapore Audience

It takes a veteran crooner to show us how to phrase a song and sing it beautifully.  The 87-year Tony Bennett held the attention of the mostly matured audience at the acoustic perfect Star Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday evening (11 Sep 2013).

Before his turn on stage, his daughter Antonia warmed up the audience with a set of standards backed by Tony Bennett's band, which provided excellent accompaniment throughout the evening.  Both Antonia and Tony Bennett did a duet later.

The entrance by Tony Bennett was introduced by the recorded voice of Frank Sinatra, and he entered the stage still looking fit and dressed in a beige jacket.

The performance covered mostly what Tony joked "old songs".  And in this area, he did not disappoint.   Hits such as One for My Baby, I left my heart in San Francisco, For Once in My Life.  He also mentioned that Charlie Chaplin was impressed with his version of "Smile".

All too soon, the show ended slightly over an hour.  For his encore, he did the song Fly Me to the Moon a capella  without the mike during the latter part, showing that he still has the lung power to reach out to the last row of the audience.  We are not sure if Tony Bennett will make it back to Singapore again, but the audience will definitely treasure that evening's performance.

Concert was organised by Running Into the Sun.
