Kinky Boots at Marina Bay Sands: A review

I was excited to see how Cyndi Lauper come up with words and music for the musical Kinky Boots, with book by Harvey Fierstein.  Being a fan of hers since her debut album "She's So Unusual", I wonder if she could transit well into musicals. Of course, she won the Tony for this musical.....

The storyline was pretty straightforward.  A son trying to keep a shoe factory afloat after his father passed away, and he found an unlikely partner in a drag queen.  Through this, he had to deal with a wedding preparation, keeping the workers employed and coming up with a unique design for the "kinky" boots.   Of course, everything ended well.

The musical took a while to get into the groove, as the key plots had to be unfolded.  The acoustics at  the venue did not enhance our enjoyment either - the venue management must do something about it  urgently.

Having said that , the audience were treated to some catchy songs, and nice dance choreography.  The cast delivered a cohesive performance, with good chemistry between Lance Bordelon (who played Charlie Price) and Jos N Banks (Lola).  I enjoyed their duets.  I like the part when Jos N Banks sang as the character "Simon".

Overall the musical made a good night out, and with the recent discussions of the repealing of Section 377A, it seems that Kinky Boots was staged at the right moment.  A show about empowerment and mutual understanding.
