Museum time in Adelaide!

While attending performances in the evening, I took the opportunity to visit 2 museums while in Adelaide.  The first destination was South Australian Museum, where the Adealaide Festival had a Dig it@ The Museum at its entrance.  More for children.  My main interest was the comprehensive display of  aboriginal culture and art at the museum

It was great to see this exhibition as I had visited Uluru.  The exhibition supplemented a lot of information gathered from the trip.

The aboriginal art was beautiful to look at...

The first image that greeted visitors to the Art Gallery of South Australia entrance would be Ian Strange's Landed.   It seemed as though a house had fallen from the sky.

This was of course part of the art work for the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, as part of the Adelaide Festival.  The theme of this year's edition was Dark Heart, which explored personal, political and psychological issues in Australia.  The Adelaide Biennial was held since 1990.

One of the works that appealed to me was Richard Lewer's Worse luck... I am still here.   It was about a pensioner's failed suicide attempt pact with his wife.  Rather bittersweet feeling when watching this moving images.

Ian Burn's sculpture which made use of everyday objects like umbrella, keyboards, ladders.

Fiona Hall's Out of My Tree, which looked at state of perceived madness.  A room was filled with skulls and the mood was duly created.

Brendan Huntley's You're Welcome was the most jovial one.

The Adelaide Biennial was a good introduction to contemporary Australian artists, and most were thought provoking.  The exhibition continues till 11 May 2014.
