Admiring the 20 Yuan Landscape at Xing Ping Old Town

We had half a day to spend in Yangshuo area, and decided to charter a car (Y200) to Xing Ping (兴坪), less than an hour's drive away.  It was an old town, probably how Yangshuo looked like years ago.  The "ancient" part was in fact small and you could visit it less than half an hour.

The highlight would be the old Chinese opera stage

Entry was free and visitors paid Y1 for the use of cameras.

As a town, Xing Ping may not have much to offer, especially if you have visited other ancient towns around Shanghai.   The town however was also a popular place to take the river rafts along the Li River.

Unlike the Yu Long River, the rafts used here were not made of bamboo but of PVC pipes, and it was motorised and rather noisy.  It cost Y200 for 2 pax but persons over 70 years old were discouraged from taking the ride.

We walked along the river banks and saw a sign for the "Landscape of 20 Yuan Background".  It was about 15 minutes from the jetty.

We walked further down but the scenery was identical.  We took a tuk tuk back, which cost us Y10 per person.

Back at Yangshuo, had Guilin noodles at Shou Zi Mi Fen (瘦子米粉), one of the well known stall across the West Street (same street as the Agricultural Bank).  The noodles were of good standard and cost Y7 per serving.  You paid at the counter and received a token indicating the price you have paid. You would hand the token to the cook and tell them what you want.

At one corner, you can add in condiments and other staff such as pickles into the noodles.  You can add soup to your noodles or have it after you have eaten them.   The noodles was a level up from the one eaten at the bus station 2 days ago.

It was one last look at the West Street before we headed to the bus station.  Caught the 245 pm bus to Guilin (Y22), a journey time of 1.5 hours.  From the bus station, we crossed the road and took a Y10 taxi ride to 7 Days Inn near the Zhong Shan Zhong Road /Zhong Xin Guang Changb(中山中路/中心广场).  I booked both hotels through Ctrip and on certain occasions the website gave me rebates.

So it was farewell Yangshuo, hello Guilin city!
