The musical Dirty Dancing is currently playing at the Mastercard Theatres at the Marina Bay Sands. This is adapted from the successful movie from the 1980s.
While we are enjoying the performance, there are some fun facts to note:
In the course of over 2 hours, "Baby" the protagonist has 216 costumes changes a week. Apparently, Bryony Whitefield, who plays Frances "Baby" Houseman, has only 15 seconds for costume changes.
The production showcases 257 costumes, 123 pairs of shoes, 43 wigs and . 120 spare vintage shirts & 60 spare vintage neck-ties travel with the show. "Baby" wore out a pair of shoes a week. 1.5kg of hairpins would be used per show.
Three scenes that were deleted from the movie were featured in the musical. The scenes talked about the American history of that time.
Eleanor Bergstein (novelist, screenwriter, producer & director) attempted unsuccessfully to obtain song rights for the movie but was able to secure them for this production. These included “Save The Last Dance For Me” (The Drifters) and “Stubborn Kinda Fella” (Marvin Gaye)
