Decimal Points 5.1, Cake Theatre Productions

From the flyers, "5.1 refers to the 6 channel surround sound multichannel audio system - the most commonly used layout in both commercial cinemas and home theatres.  It is also about the search of self in a densely populated space, a space with a population that is reaching 5.1 million".

It was Rizman Putra's turn to present Cake Theatre's last instalment of decimal point series, in collaboration with The Substation.

Sound artist Zulkifle Mahmod positioned himself at the centre of stage and 5 performers (Fared Jainal, Sharda Harrison, Syaiful Ariffin, Patricia Toh, Yazid Jalil) had radio frequency sensors and wore "neo futuristic costumes".

As it was a wordless performance, the audience had to decipher the meaning of the production.  It was better however to just watch the action going on stage without thinking too much.  There seemed to be people running away, political uprising, sports and endurance etc.

Without a clear storyline, and with the actions at times be too repetitive, the production became draggy at time, especially the last 15 minutes.  With some editing, this could be an interesting physical theatre piece if the creator and director decided if he wanted it to be a serious or a funny production.  Good attempt.
