This blog includes my 2 interests: attending arts performances and travels. It serves as a documentation of the Singapore arts and culture scene. For my travels, I hope my experience will make your next trip more fruitful and enjoyable.

The Magic Brush 神笔马良, 23 - 24 Nov 2012
Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe restaged the children's musical The Magic Brush at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre. The performances were in conjunction with the worldwide Hokkien people gathering in Singapore.
It's a challenge staging a children's musical at a big venue such as the Marina Bay Sands Theatre. The SHHK troupe managed to fill the space with nice stage design, good technical support and a capable cast. The various sections of the troupe performed, showcasing the talents of the children. It was good seeing that the children were enjoying performing but these sequences did strectch the duration of the show.
The cast put up a good showing though I wondered if the director was trying too hard to include Hokkien in the dialogue. It looked and sounded odd at times.
The blacklight effect was used well such as the scene with the sea creatures.
SHHK Arts and Culture Troupe should be commended for doing a big scale musical well.
