Woman Emperor Wu Ze Tian 武则天, Chinese Theatre Circle

The 12 Jan 2013 Chinese Theatre Circle's performance of Emperor Wu was significant as it would be the last full length Cantonese Opera by Cultural Medalion recipient Joanna Wong.   Joanna Wong has been performing over the past 60 years and  she was one of the key Cantonese opera artists in Singapore.

Joanna Wong played the titled role of Wu Ze Tian. She sang the part of the older Wu well in the second half.  The first half was slightly long and some actors were not in their right position at one stage.

The action picked up in the second half.  Joanna had a good co-star Ou Kai Ming 欧凯明 who sang the role Zhang Liu Lang, the young companion of Emperor Wu.  They had excellent chemistry on stage.  Christopher Choo also performed the role of Di Ren Jie well.  The scene he had with Ou was memorable.

It is a fitting finale for Joanna Wong, and hope that she would occasional appearance on stage.
