8 Women Sing'Theatre, SOTA Theatre

An English version of the French play, which was made into a movie few years back.  Sing'Theatre's staging of this production was commendable, under the sure hand of director Samatha Scott-Blackhall.

Samatha Scott-Blackhall generally kept the pace of this who-dunnit play tight, the beginning started a bit slow though.  While she devised "close-up" scenes by moving the sets and props, I found it distracting at times.

She however drew out good performance from the ensemble, in particular seasoned actors like Tan Kheng Hua, Serene Chen, New Swee Lin and Daisy Irani.  I however wondered if it is necessary for Daisy Irani to put up Indian accent (hey, this is set in France).  Julia Abueva was good as the younger daughter.

The set design by Wong Chee Wai was beautiful and the lighting design by James Tan and sound design by Bani Haykal supported the storyline well.  Overall, this is a good effort by Sing'Theatre and let's hope more good productions from them in the coming years.
