Sri Lanka Day 3: Beautiful sculpture at Aukana
After lunch, as we had time to spare, we proceeded to Aukana, a 40 minute scenic drive from Dumbulla. Upon reaching Aukana, we were surprised to see a monk who used to base at a Temple near our home. What fate and coincidence!
The 12 m standing Buddha figure was very impressive, well preserved and imposing. It dates at least 600 years old.
The monk said that when it rains, the droplets would fall directly from the nose of the sculpture to the ground, making a sight to behold.
Aukana is definitely worth a tripp if you have the time. Entry fee is Rs500.
