Alone Again with Glbert O'Sullivan in Singapore

Gilbert O'Sullivan made his first appearance in Singapore in his 4 decade career.  He mentioned in his concert that he had the opportunity in the 70s to perform in Singapore, but he chose to remain in England to focus on his songwriting.

His fans' patience were paid off when he did a one-night show at Esplanade Concert Hall, as part of the Mosaic Music Festival at Esplanande.

While he may not hit the high notes as before, Gilbert was an engaging performer, bantering constantly with the audience.  He also composed a short piece on Singapore, and promised to work on it over the next few decades.  He constantly teased the audience with playing a few bars of this "song".

The first part of the concert was a bit slow, but what was good about the concert was that we could hear him sing clearly, unlike most concerts now where the music accompaniment drowned out the vocals.  He performed hits such as "Nothing Rhymed" (his first hit), "Clair" (his favourite), "Matrimony" and of course for hs encoure, "Alone Again (Naturally) and Get Down.   It was a wonderful way to end with a fast tempo number (Get Down), and showed that he could really rocked the auditorium if he wanted to.  At one point, he was standing on his keyboard holding a mike stand.

Gilbert showed his humble side during autograph signing after the concert.  He greeted the fans and also shook hands with autograph seeker.  A happy night for the concert goers.
